If you live in America, you have to know what the baby shower is. But there are some countries where the baby shower isn't celebrated at all. For example, in Denmark, people don't organize this party, they even don't know what it means. Do you want to know why?
Superstitions of Danes don't let them make the baby shower. What are the superstitions? The Dane believes that if a present is given before a baby's born, it will die.
Of course, one may find the logical interpretation to their fear. The most tragic thing that might happen is a death of a baby, even if a baby isn't born yet. The belief in the superstition shows us once again, how the Danes love children and take care of them.
It is true that in Denmark there is special love to children. It can be seen all over the country and firstly, by how children rest in Denmark is organized.
That's why due to big love to children there isn't the baby shower in Denmark.
When do The Danes present newborn gifts in this case?
In Denmark it is not accepted for moms to write baby gift registry and send the invitations with presents for a newborn listed.
After a baby is born, all friends and relatives take a long breath thanking the heavens for a good delivery. They come to the hospital to see a mom and its baby.
As a sign of their happiness they usually bring flowers, gourmet gift basket and some little presents for a newborn baby like rattles. After, when a mom and her baby came back home, some close friends and relatives visit them and present new parents with useful baby gifts: baby clothes, baby bedding, baby carriage, baby toys and so on.
How are baby gifts presented in a Danish family?
Usually presentation of baby gifts is done over the served table. But none of the guests make a noise or speak aloud in order not to bother a newborn baby. A little price or princess is sleeping that time as usual... and the guests are happy and make toasts for a new Danish baby.
But don't new Danish moms feel deprived of baby shower?
Absolutely not! New mom takes newborn gifts with high gratitude regardless of the fact she has already had them or not. In turn, guests are not obliged to make expensive presents. Relatives and friends present a newborn baby gift basket they can afford.
So, if you live in America and are not able to make a baby shower party, don't be upset. In Denmark nobody makes baby shower and everybody is happy as hey can just make baby presents.
